So, I have a few things about Kyler I keep forgetting to share (or document is more like it).
First: When we first moved here I had to take the kids to the Health Department to get Kyler's shot records transferred to this state so he could get registered for school. My mom had already left. We were here in a new town we didn't know well, with people we didn't know, doing random things that needed done, and staying in a hotel. I was getting the kids out of the van and grabbing the shot records. Kyler flipped something on the side of the door of the van. It wouldn't shut. I tried locking and unlocking the door, but whatever devise he flipped would not move. We still had a bunch of our stuff in the van (including all our important documents that I didn't trust to go with the moving truck). I couldn't just leave the door open to go into the building for an unspecified amount of time. I couldn't call Trevor to rescue me. I didn't know anyone in the area, except for the one wonderful lady we stayed with for a few days while I looked for a house. I didn't have her number with me. I tried to stay calm and not panic when Kyler suggested we say a prayer. He felt really bad and was on the verge of tears because he could tell I was really worried about what to do. We said a prayer and I had a thought to get a pen and pry the metal piece down. It worked! I reminded Kyler that our prayer was answered very quickly, but not all prayers are answered that quick.
Second: One day the power in our house went out. The utility company said there was a fire somewhere and they didn't know how long the power would be out. I had been making dinner for ourselves and our friends because their mom had surgery and I was worried about how they were doing. (This was Kyler's friend up the street.) I had bread rising and started to worry that the power wouldn't come on before I needed to get the bread in the oven. I didn't want it to ruin. I called Trevor and told him we might have to go out for dinner. Kyler looked at me and said, "Mom, why don't we say a prayer!" I have to admit, it seemed incredibly silly to pray for the power to come back on (to an adult, of course). It wasn't really life or death, or something too serious. But, I followed my child's lead and we said a prayer. The power didn't come on right away, but it came on just in time for me to finish up dinner and send it to the neighbors. I'm so glad for the faith of a child! Kyler has had quite a few experiences with prayer and I'm glad he's learning that prayers are answered in different ways at different times so young. He amazes me.
One more tidbit about Kyler: He loves to read chapter books (well, have them read to him). We started reading a few chapter books and that is what he requests now. He really likes Nate the Great (which aren't really chapter books, but are a lot longer than storybooks). He also loves some of the books I had as a child, like the Dell Young Reader books. We are just starting a Boxcar Children book right now. We'll see if he makes it through this one. It's a bit older than we expect him to follow, but he likes it so far. It's fun to have that time reading with him. Azure even sits down for these stories sometimes and likes to look through them. She just wants to be with big brother ;)
